Explosions Reported in Southern Saudi Arabia; Aramco Facilities Potentially Targeted
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, explosions have reverberated through several regions in southern Saudi Arabia, as reported by Al-Masirah channel via Mehr News Agency. The blasts were reportedly heard in parts of Abha and Khamis Mushait within the Asir region, as well as in various locations in Jizan.
The source of these explosions has not yet been officially identified. However, some unofficial media outlets have cited attacks by Yemeni armed forces on Aramco oil facilities in these areas.
If the reports of an attack on Saudi Arabian oil facilities are accurate, this would mark the second such incident within a span of several hours. The Financial Times reported on Monday that Saudi Aramco’s oil facilities in Jizan were targeted in a new attack, just one month after a separate incident that temporarily disrupted a portion of the company’s refinery production in the region.
Citing two informed sources, the newspaper indicated that oil infrastructure in Jizan was hit on Monday. Assessments are underway to determine the extent of the damage, with reports suggesting the scale of this latest attack is comparable to the previous month’s strike.
Jizan, located closest to Yemen’s borders among Saudi Arabia’s industrial cities, has been a frequent target of Houthi attacks in the past. The region hosts a major oil refinery with a production capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, making it one of the country’s largest refineries. It also encompasses numerous associated facilities and energy infrastructure.
The Financial Times noted that Ansar Allah in Yemen has not yet claimed responsibility for any new attacks on Saudi Arabia. Previously, Amin H. Nasser, CEO of Aramco, stated last month that earlier attacks had caused disruptions to the company’s oil production but had no fundamental impact on its operations or financial standing. Aramco has not yet responded to the newspaper’s request for information regarding the latest attack.
