Putin Declares Unipolar World Order a Relic of the Past

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the expansion of the United Nations Security Council and greater participation of Global South countries in global governance mechanisms during the BRICS summit in New Delhi.

Speaking at the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi on Saturday, Putin asserted that the unipolar international relations system, which benefited a select few nations, is now a thing of the past. He observed that the global balance of power is shifting in favor of new growth centers within the Global South and the East.

The Russian President emphasized that as a multipolar world order takes shape, it is more crucial than ever to collaborate on strengthening genuine multilateralism. He stressed the need for increased involvement of more countries in global governance frameworks and the operations of key international political and economic institutions to address serious challenges and threats and to ensure international peace and stability.

Putin highlighted BRICS as the “largest association in the world,” noting that its member states account for approximately 40 percent of global Gross Domestic Product. He added that BRICS nations encompass nearly one-third of the Earth’s landmass, and close to half of the world’s population resides within these member countries.

He further stated that BRICS members are committed to deepening cooperation across core areas, including politics and security, economy and finance, culture, and humanitarian affairs.

The Russian President underscored that participation within BRICS has consistently been founded on principles of equality, good neighborliness, and mutual consideration of national interests, with the group’s global standing and influence continually on the rise.
