Israel Eyes Limited Withdrawal from Al-Taher Heights Amid Lebanon Border Tensions
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, based on data published by Mehr News Agency and cited by Al Jazeera, as efforts continue to reorganize military deployments on Lebanon’s southern borders, the Israeli government is examining new field arrangements in the Al-Taher area. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority also announced ongoing discussions between the army and the political leadership to determine the precise status of troop deployments in southern Lebanon.
In this regard, Israeli War Minister Israel Katz stated that the Al-Taher Heights are considered part of the regime’s ‘Yellow Line’ and security zone. He emphasized that Israel will not undertake any withdrawal or redeployment of its forces from this area until Hezbollah is disarmed. Katz issued a warning against any attempts to return to these heights, declaring that the Israeli army is prepared to confront any Hezbollah activity in the region and that anyone approaching this boundary will be targeted.
It is noteworthy that the Israeli regime launched extensive attacks against Lebanon starting March 2, resulting in numerous Lebanese casualties and the displacement of over a million people. Although a ‘Framework Agreement’ was signed last month through American mediation aimed at ending the war between the Israeli regime and Hezbollah, this agreement has faced serious criticism. Critics point to ambiguities in the agreement’s legal status and the absence of a clear timeline for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.
