Qatar Pledges Diplomatic Efforts for Regional Stability, Cites Israel’s Gaza Commitments
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Qatar is committed to diplomatic initiatives aimed at guaranteeing regional stability, with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani asserting the necessity of eliminating the sources of discord. He highlighted that no single nation poses a threat to others, positioning energy as Qatar’s strength and technology as the foundation for its future. The region, he noted, has experienced seismic events whose aftershocks have extended beyond its borders, severely testing existing assumptions about security and stability. Throughout recent crises, discussions have consistently commenced with security, then progressed to energy supply and shipping. While acknowledging prevailing uncertainties, Qatar is determined not to allow short-term disruptions to dictate its path.
The Qatari Prime Minister further elaborated on the nation’s strategy, stating, “We strive for regional stability through diplomacy. We advance reforms through investment, enhance our resilience, and create opportunities for growth. Qatar will remain a committed mediator, a reliable energy supplier, and an investment partner.” The Qatari government views diplomacy and economic stability as intrinsically linked, with diplomacy safeguarding the environment necessary for trade, investment, and planning. He stressed that enduring security cannot be achieved through cycles of escalation and retaliation, nor through measures that render any nation vulnerable to insecurity. Building trust and addressing sources of tension are paramount.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs added that the region requires a framework respecting sovereignty and ensuring no state threatens another. Qatar has been collaborating with regional and international partners to maintain communication channels and de-escalate tensions. Despite recent events, Qatar’s financial system and companies have continued to operate effectively. He reiterated that energy is Qatar’s source of power, diversification its key to resilience, and technology its future. Qatar’s efforts are directed towards facilitating peace negotiations and mediation, while also striving to keep communication channels open, an approach that has proven effective.
He also urged Israel to fulfill its obligations concerning Gaza, stating, “Israel acts indiscriminately and does not adhere to its commitments; it is entirely clear that these commitments have not been met.” He expressed concern that one party continues to engage in killings and obstruct aid to Gaza, with insufficient action from the international community. The minister concluded by categorizing global actors as either peacemakers, instigators, or obstructors.
