Israeli Artillery Strikes Southern Syria Amidst Escalating Tensions
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli forces have targeted rural areas in the western Daraa province of southern Syria with artillery shells. The Israeli military fired several artillery rounds towards the Abideen and Al-Raqad valleys, simultaneously striking the vicinity of Jumla village in the Yarmouk Basin region of Daraa province.
Syrian sources reported that Israeli soldiers fired from one of their positions along the 1974 ceasefire line towards the outskirts of the town of Abideen. These attacks occurred one day after the Israeli army conducted two separate shelling operations on rural areas of Quneitra province in southern Syria, bombarding the southeastern part of Al-Rafid town and the village of Beer Ajam.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights previously announced that since the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime until September 19 of the current year, over a thousand instances of Israeli aggression against Syria have been recorded, with the intensity of these attacks increasing this year. According to the report, 460 incursions were registered in 2025, and 594 in 2026. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights emphasized that Israeli aggressions against the country are not limited to ground advances, with 78 air and ground attacks recorded since the beginning of the current year.
Following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime on December 8, 2014, Israel expanded its occupation of Syrian territory, took control of the buffer zone, and nullified the 1974 disengagement agreement between the two parties. Under this agreement, a Syrian-controlled buffer zone was established to separate Syrian and Israeli forces, with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) overseeing its implementation.
Israeli aggressions have recently increased in Quneitra. Syrians have complained about Israeli military incursions into their agricultural lands, destruction of hundreds of hectares of forests, detentions of individuals, and the establishment of military checkpoints to inspect passersby. Despite the Golan Heights regime posing no threat to Tel Aviv, the Israeli army has repeatedly entered Syria and carried out airstrikes, resulting in civilian casualties and the destruction of military sites, vehicles, weapons, and ammunition belonging to the Syrian army. In response to these aggressions, the Golan Heights regime has not only failed to take any practical action but has also expressed a desire to negotiate with Tel Aviv.
