Emir of Qatar Warns Region Faces Critical Juncture, Calls for Diplomatic Solutions
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, addressing the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, declared that the region is navigating one of its most perilous periods. He attributed the current regional instability to years of inaction and the pursuit of untenable solutions.
The Emir emphasized that dialogue and negotiation are the fundamental means to resolve disputes. He reiterated Qatar’s unwavering commitment to its role as a trusted mediator, cautioning that delaying the resolution of pending issues only serves to escalate their costs.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani underscored that the prevailing situation is characterized by a deficit in collective security within the region, which is essential for fostering the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Qatar continues to believe that the Persian Gulf crisis can be resolved through diplomatic channels, he stated, adding that the opportunity for a peaceful diplomatic solution should not be missed.
He remarked, “For us, wisdom and resilience are two sides of the same coin.” He described the events unfolding in Gaza as a stain on the conscience of humanity, noting that Israeli leaders openly advocate for the displacement of Gaza’s residents, terming it migration. Qatar, he affirmed, has consistently pursued its mediation efforts in Gaza since day one, without pause, until a ceasefire agreement is reached. He expressed concern that those who view displacement as a solution might obstruct any efforts to improve the living conditions of Gaza’s inhabitants.
The Emir further noted that Israeli aggressions have extended to neighboring countries, posing a threat to regional security, including that of Syria. He pointed out that Israel has openly declared its non-adherence to the agreement concerning Lebanon and insists on treating it under a guardianship rationale. Israel, he asserted, must fulfill its obligations to cease attacks, withdraw from the Gaza Strip, and lift the blockade.
Qatar supports the political process, reconciliation efforts, and the consolidation of governmental institutions in Libya. He also voiced support for the United Nations’ endeavors aimed at achieving a comprehensive political solution in Yemen.
