Kazakhstan Military Tragedy in Caspian Sea Claims 14 Lives
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Kazakhstan‘s Ministry of Defense confirmed Friday that the number of fatalities in a recent incident in the Caspian Sea has climbed to 14. The announcement, citing Anatolia News Agency via Mehr News Agency, stated that search and rescue operations have concluded following the recovery of two more military personnel from the water on Friday morning.
The ministry issued a statement conveying the deepest and most sincere condolences from the command and staff of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the families and loved ones of the fallen soldiers.
The incident initially reported on Thursday involved 17 military personnel who were reportedly swept into the sea in the Mangystau region of southwestern Kazakhstan during a combat training mission. At that time, the deaths of nine individuals were confirmed. The ministry attributed the disaster to a sudden deterioration in weather conditions and intensified winds. A delegation led by Minister of Defense Dauren Kussainov was dispatched to the site to investigate the immediate details and causes of the incident.
In response to the tragedy, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan declared Friday a national day of mourning through an official decree.
