Europe Faces Greatest Risk from Looming Diesel Shortage, Energy Agency Warns
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Europe stands out as the region most susceptible to current diesel shortages and may be the most vulnerable, Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, stated on Tuesday.
Birol highlighted Europe’s significant reliance on diesel imports, particularly in the lead-up to winter, and noted that supply chain issues are intensifying the existing challenges.
He also pointed to difficulties faced by traditional diesel exporters, including Russia and Persian Gulf countries. The United States is reportedly considering a ban on diesel exports.
In response to a question about whether the agency had attempted to dissuade the Trump administration from imposing a diesel export ban, the Executive Director stated that the agency advises all member countries on actions that serve both their interests and those of their allies and partners.
The International Energy Agency is closely monitoring oil markets, especially products like diesel. If necessary, member countries will discuss the potential release of strategic petroleum reserves.
