Najaba Leader Warns Against Iraqi Capitulation to U.S. Demands
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ali Al-Asadi, head of the political council of Iraq‘s Najaba movement, emphasized in a detailed interview with Al Mayadeen network that the decisions by Iraqi authorities to prevent Iranian aircraft from landing at the country’s airports are regrettable and demonstrate submission to American bullying.
Al-Asadi stated that the issue extends beyond airports, asserting that Iraq, possessing strong relations with Iran, should not yield to an irresponsible U.S. decision concerning its internal affairs. He urged decision-makers to reconsider this stance.
He further warned that failure to do so would lead to public movements pressuring for a change in this decision, noting that popular options hold significant weight and all possibilities are on the table. Al-Asadi attributed the American occupation forces’ ability to impose their decisions on Iraq to the weakness of domestic political actors, contrasting this with Iraq’s capacity to refuse such impositions and preserve its political and economic sovereignty, similar to other nations.
Defining sovereignty as absolute independence where decisions in economic, security, and all other domains are made internally, Al-Asadi stressed that Iraq must be free and that the U.S. envoy should not interfere in its economic, security, and political affairs. Regarding weapons, he clarified that the term “weapons monopoly” is inaccurate, preferring “weapons regulation.” He identified corruption, not weapons, as Iraq’s major problem. Al-Asadi linked the conditions for handing over weapons to the end of the American occupation and the withdrawal of foreign presence, including Turks, in Iraq. He also stated that the Peshmerga forces must be under the command of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He highlighted separatist groups as one of Iraq’s problems and affirmed that the resistance will intervene whenever necessary.
Al-Asadi revealed that the Najaba movement possesses information indicating the formation of a team, composed of Iraqis under direct American supervision, tasked with carrying out assassinations and sowing sedition. He likened this operation to a new iteration of the notorious Blackwater company, intended to compensate for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country.
He reported that several attempts to instigate internal conflicts under the pretext of resistance weaponry, orchestrated by the United States, have been thwarted. Additionally, reports have emerged regarding the incitement of ISIS elements within Iraq.
Al-Asadi firmly stated that the movement harbors no trust in Americans, citing their failure to honor their promises. He recalled their actions against Iran during negotiations. He also mentioned that the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires had attempted to establish contact through a political figure. Furthermore, other envoys allied with Washington sent messages expressing a desire for negotiation, all conditioned on relinquishing strategic weapons capable of targeting Israel. Al-Asadi confirmed that all such proposals were unequivocally rejected.
