Suspicious Plot Against UK Air Base Thwarted After Suspect Contacts Police

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a suspicious plot against the Royal Air Force Fairford base in western England, which American forces utilize for operations, was neutralized after one of the suspects contacted police. This is based on data published by the Mehr News Agency and reported by Reuters.

Five English men in their thirties, all residing in London, were arrested near the base on Sunday on suspicion of terrorism-related offenses and explosives. They were later released on bail.

The Times newspaper reported that one of the individuals contacted emergency services in the early hours of the morning, shortly before his arrest. According to the newspaper, investigators are examining the possibility that this action was undertaken to test security systems, conduct a trial operation, or send a message to the British government. It remains unclear whether the individual decided against proceeding or if the contact was part of the plan.

U.S. President Donald Trump had previously claimed the suspects intended to cause significant damage, and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had raised the possibility of foreign involvement.

British police also stated that gasoline was found in the vehicles used by the suspects, but no improvised explosive devices were discovered.
