Najaf Airport Reopens, Protest Called Off Following Negotiations

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Executive Council of the Iraqi Najaba Movement announced the reopening of Najaf Airport and the cancellation of an indefinite protest scheduled for the coming days. Nazem Al-Saidi, head of the Executive Council, expressed gratitude to all participants for their responsible stance, which he said was rooted in Iraqi sovereignty.
Al-Saidi warned that if the United States’ blockade against Iraqi airports continues, the Iraqi people will not hesitate to launch a stronger and more powerful popular storm. He asserted that Iraq will not accept any guardianship over its decision-making or any retreat from its national sovereignty.
Previously, Al-Saidi had stated that all Iraqi airports should be open to flights from Iran and, in return, cleansed of British companies, with security and maintenance fully delegated to domestic firms. The Iraqi government had earlier announced an exemption allowing 40 daily flights to and from Najaf International Airport for Iranian airlines, with the exception of Mahan Air.
