Belarus Working Towards Lukashenko-Trump Meeting, Cites Travel Hurdles

Minsk is actively preparing for a potential meeting between Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and U.S. President Donald Trump, although European Union sanctions pose significant travel challenges.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Belarus is making practical arrangements for a meeting between President Alexander Lukashenko and U.S. President Donald Trump. Maksim Ryzhenkov, the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that all necessary steps are being taken to facilitate this encounter.

Ryzhenkov addressed President Lukashenko’s absence from a peace summit, despite an invitation from President Trump. He explained that direct flights from Belarus to the United States are complicated due to existing European Union sanctions targeting both the Belarusian President personally and the national airline.

Previously, President Lukashenko had expressed his view that a meeting with President Trump could be beneficial for Belarus. He had also indicated that Minsk was prepared to cooperate with Washington with the aim of normalizing bilateral relations.
