Alberta Voters Choose to Remain Within Canada

A referendum in Alberta saw over 76% of voters choose to stay within Canada, rejecting a move towards provincial independence. The results indicate a clear preference for national unity and continued collaboration.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, over 76 percent of voters in the province of Alberta cast their ballots to remain within Canada in a referendum held on Monday. CBC Television Network reported, citing preliminary results, that 23.6 percent of participants supported initiating a process for the province’s independence.

As of the initial results’ release, approximately one-quarter of the nearly one million ballots had been counted. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney responded to the outcomes, stating that the people of Alberta had “made a clear choice.”

In a statement, he declared, “They chose unity, collaboration, and caring for one another. Most importantly, the people of Alberta chose Canada.” Carney added that as vote counting continues, the results for the main question regarding separation indicate that Albertans and other Canadians will continue on their shared path with renewed purpose and greater ambition.

The Prime Minister of Canada also mentioned that the country is forging new business partnerships globally, accelerating the implementation of major national projects across various regions, and harnessing its full potential as a global energy power. He noted that Alberta is at the center of this capacity.
