Paris police have announced that public gatherings and demonstrations will be prohibited in several districts of the French capital on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The specific areas affected by this ban were not detailed by Al Jazeera.

French officials had previously stated that a nighttime curfew was extended in parts of Paris and Lyon following widespread disturbances in recent days. The Paris police reported that enforcing the curfew in two city districts, around Place de la République and the commercial area of Les Halles, has contributed to restoring nighttime calm. These restrictions are set to continue as long as deemed necessary.

In Lyon, authorities have extended the nighttime curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the city center. Meanwhile, Marseille implemented restrictions on nighttime movement for individuals under the legal age who are unaccompanied, starting Tuesday night.
