Netanyahu Abandons Coalition Talks and Pivots Toward Snap Elections Amid Political Deadlock

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly decided to abandon coalition formation efforts and push toward early elections following a political impasse. The move comes as efforts to form a unity government or partner with key political figures stalled.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to halt current efforts to form a cabinet and is moving toward triggering snap elections, according to informed officials cited by Channel 14 television.

Reports indicate that this strategic decision effectively rules out the formation of a so-called national unity government, as well as potential alliances with political figures Avigdor Lieberman and Naftali Bennett. The shift follows Netanyahu’s realization that Gadi Eisenkot would ultimately decline to join a unity administration.

The political maneuvering unfolds despite previous appeals from Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who urged party representatives to pursue innovative compromises to prevent the country from heading toward new parliamentary elections. In response to the ongoing crisis, Haaretz reported that Herzog is scheduled to initiate formal consultations with leaders of the factions elected to the Knesset regarding the formation of a new government.

Official results released by the Israeli Central Election Committee for the 26th Knesset elections showed that the right-wing bloc led by incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secured 53 seats, while the rival camp headed by Gadi Eisenkot captured 48 seats. Meanwhile, various Arab party lists secured a combined total of 19 seats in the parliament.
