Arab League Condemns Systematic Torture of Gaza Prisoners in Israeli Detention

The Arab League has issued a strong condemnation of the organized torture and abuse of Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip at the Ramle prison, demanding an immediate international investigation and accountability for the perpetrators.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, …the regional organization released an official statement on Sunday denouncing the recent wave of systematic suppression and torture targeting Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip inside the Rakfet wing of the Ramle prison.

The Arab League emphasized in its declaration that the ongoing situation facing Gaza detainees in the Rakfet facility constitutes a blatant violation of human rights and systemic repression, which has thus far resulted in injuries and burns among numerous inmates.

Issuing a serious warning regarding the dangerous repercussions of such actions, the regional body evaluated them as a clear breach of international humanitarian law—specifically the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their two Additional Protocols, as well as the Convention Against Torture.

The statement explicitly noted that the aforementioned mistreatment amounts to crimes against humanity, mandating that the perpetrators face legal prosecution and be held fully accountable for their actions.

Furthermore, the institution demanded the immediate cessation of all oppressive measures against Palestinian prisoners and the guarantee of humane treatment in accordance with international human rights standards and humanitarian law.

In another segment of the announcement, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other independent monitoring organizations were urged to conduct unrestricted visits to the Ramle prison and its Rakfet unit, document violations of prisoner rights, and provide emergency medical care to the injured.

This firm stance by the Arab League followed reports released on October 27 by the Palestinian Prisoners Information Office, which revealed that Gaza inmates held in the Rakfet wing had repeatedly been subjected to brutal assaults.

According to those previous reports, the violent attacks involved severe beatings, the deployment of tear gas, and the firing of plastic bullets, resulting in injuries and burns among a number of the detainees.
