Times Reports Secret Development of Space Based Weapon System in Germany

The Times has revealed that German technology firm Atmos Space Cargo is secretly developing a space-to-ground weapon system designed to target locations across the globe.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, …German technology company Atmos Space Cargo is covertly designing a space-to-ground weapon system that theoretically possesses the capability to target various locations across the Earth, according to a report by the British newspaper The Times.

Known as the long-range orbital precision strike project, the initiative involves deploying a conventional projectile from a satellite inside a resilient capsule designed to protect the payload from intense thermal destruction during atmospheric reentry.

Sebastian Klaus, the chief executive of the company and a former officer in the German army special forces, told The Times that work on the military dimensions of this technology was initiated following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022.

To advance the project and transition beyond the prototype phase, Atmos intends to partner with a major European defense contractor, such as the missile manufacturer MBDA, the report noted.

Nevertheless, the proposed project remains in its early stages of development, and its technical and economic viability has not yet been finalized. Furthermore, experts have expressed skepticism regarding challenges such as tracking projectile trajectories and the legal hurdles surrounding the deployment of space-based weaponry.
