The UN Security Council passed a resolution against Yemen’s Ansarullah

By passing a resolution, the UN Security Council asked Yemen's Ansarullah to stop its attacks against ships in the Red Sea.

The approval of a resolution in the Security Council requires 9 positive votes out of 15 votes of the members of this council without the veto of the permanent members, and this resolution was approved with 12 votes in favor. Three countries China, Russia and Algeria abstained from this resolution.

In this resolution, the UN Security Council asked Yemen’s Ansarullah to stop all its attacks on ships to avoid disrupting shipping in international waters in the West Asia.

This resolution was presented at the suggestion of the United States and Japan, and Robert Wood, the deputy ambassador of the United States to the United Nations, said: Ansarullah’s attacks in Yemen have endangered international peace and security. This global challenge requires a global solution.

He added: By passing today’s resolution, we sent a clear message to Yemen’s Ansarullah: immediately stop attacking ships in international waters.

Previously, the United Nations Security Council on January 20, 1402 equal to January 10, 2024, passed the resolution proposed by the United States of America and Japan with number 2722 against Yemen’s Ansarullah regarding the attacks in the Red Sea without mentioning the main reason for these attacks and Washington’s support. approved by the Israeli regime in the bombing of Gaza.

The US Treasury Department announced on February 16 (27th of Bahman 1402) that the sanctions that the United States of America has imposed against this group due to Yemen’s Houthis (Ansarullah) attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea, have entered the implementation phase from today. The US State Department also declared this movement a global terrorist group on February 17 (Bahan 28, 1402) following the implementation of a new round of sanctions against Yemen’s Ansarullah by the Ministry of Treasury of this country.

In 2021, the administration of US President Joe Biden removed the name of the Ansarullah movement from Washington’s terrorist list in order to facilitate the Yemen peace talks.
