Details of America’s first diplomatic engagement with Syria after 12 years
reported by Mehr News Agency quoted Al-Mayadin, the spokesperson of the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the diplomatic delegation of this country met with the representatives of the terrorist group “Tahrir al-Sham” in Damascus this Friday.
The spokesperson of the US State Department continued his report about this trip and added: American diplomats discussed with the Tahrir al-Sham delegation about the principles of power transfer in Syria and developments in the region.
He emphasized that in the discussion with Tahrir al-Sham delegation in Damascus, the fight against ISIS was also discussed.
This senior American official noted that American diplomats talked with Syrian civil society, activists and representatives of different sects.
He also said that the American diplomatic mission discussed the fate of a missing journalist and the disappeared American citizens in Syria during the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
The US Embassy in Syria also announced that the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs met with representatives of the Tahrir al-Sham group today. In this meeting, the principles agreed upon by the US and its allies in the Aqaba meeting were discussed.
The American Embassy added that in today’s meeting in Damascus, it was emphasized to support the inclusive political process in Syria under the leadership of the Syrians themselves and the formation of a government that respects their rights, and consultation about the events regional and importance of joint efforts to deal with terrorism.
