Japan’s foreign minister attends Trump’s inauguration ceremony

According to Iwaya, the government of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba hopes to maintain close ties with Washington as Tokyo’s security ally.
In an interview with NHK, Iwaya said that Japan intends to establish relations based on trust with the Trump administration. According to him, on this trip, he is looking to meet with Senator Marco Rubio, Trump’s choice for the US State Department.
India and Australia have already announced that their foreign ministers will attend Trump’s inauguration.
This will be Iwaya’s first visit to America since his appointment as Japan’s foreign minister in October 2024. Japan, as a long-term ally of America, which had good relations with Washington during Trump’s first administration, plans to establish good relations with America at the beginning of his second administration.
