U.S. Secretary of State and Pakistani Prime Minister Discuss Tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi in Phone Call
The English section of the Webangah News Agency,citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters TV,reported that the office of Pakistan’s prime Minister issued a statement on Wednesday announcing a phone consultation between Shehbaz Sharif and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding recent tensions in relations between Islamabad and New Delhi.
The statement from the Pakistani prime Minister’s office emphasized: “The Prime Minister stressed to Secretary Rubio that India’s actions are concerning.” He assured Rubio that “India’s provocations aim to divert Pakistan from its efforts to combat terrorism.”
According to Reuters, the U.S. Secretary of State also underscored the need for continued cooperation between Washington and Islamabad to ensure peace and stability in South Asia.
amid escalating tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following a deadly attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir, officials earlier reported an exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani forces along their shared border.India has accused neighboring Pakistan of supporting “cross-border terrorism.” However, Islamabad denies any involvement in the Kashmir incident, calling attempts to link Pakistan to it “futile,” while warning it will respond appropriately to any action by India.
