South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency Reports Resignation of Acting President
According to the English section of “webangah News Agency“,citing Mehr News Agency and reuters,Han Duck-soo,South Korea’s acting president,has resigned from his position.
Yonhap reported that Han Duck-soo is set to run in South Korea’s early elections scheduled for June 3.
The South Korean prime minister, who had been serving as acting president while retaining his role, stated: “I ultimately decided to resign from my position to do what I can to overcome the crisis we are facing.”
Han Duck-soo was required to resign by May 4 to participate in the June 3 elections. Choo Sang-mook, South Korea’s deputy prime minister, is likely to replace Han Duck-soo as acting president.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s Supreme Court today overturned a preliminary ruling against Lee Jae-myung, the leading presidential candidate. The initial ruling had cleared Myung of charges related to election law violations.
