Turkish President Announces Ankara’s Readiness​ to Host⁢ Peace Talks Between‍ Moscow ‍and Kyiv⁣ in Phone⁣ Call with Russian Counterpart

According to a report by the English‍ section of ⁣”webangah News Agency” ⁢citing Mehr News Agency and RT, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey,‍ stated during a phone call with his Russian‌ counterpart Vladimir Putin that Ankara is ‌prepared to host peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.Turkey hosted Russia-ukraine talks in⁢ 2022,‍ tho those discussions did ‌not yield results.In his​ conversation with Putin, ⁤Erdoğan welcomed the ⁢Russian president’s ⁢remarks about resuming negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul and affirmed Ankara’s readiness to host talks aimed at achieving⁣ a lasting solution.

An official statement regarding the call noted: “President Erdoğan emphasized that a window for peace has opened,⁢ and a comprehensive ceasefire would create the necessary environment for peace negotiations.”

Erdoğan also stressed in a separate call with french President Emmanuel Macron that “a historic turning⁤ point has been reached on the path to ending the Ukraine war, and this opportunity must be maximized.”

In‍ spring 2022,Turkey hosted several ​rounds of talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations. Moscow had previously claimed​ that ⁤while both sides ‍were moving toward peace at⁤ the time—even ‍reaching an initial draft agreement—the⁤ negotiations were derailed after then-UK Prime ⁣Minister Boris Johnson, who allegedly ⁣urged​ “continued fighting,” intervened. Johnson has denied ⁤these allegations. ⁤

Putin ⁤earlier ‍remarked that “Russia has never rejected negotiations ⁤and has always welcomed them,” ‌adding: “We propose resuming talks without any preconditions.”
