Passengers stranded and long queues form at London airport
Passengers at London Stansted Airport faced long queues and flight delays on Sunday,with some even missing their flights.
According to the International Economics section of the Webangah News agency, citing The Guardian, travelers at London Stansted Airport encountered extensive delays due to issues with boarding pass systems, baggage handling, and airport security—stemming from disruptions in their IT infrastructure.Social media images showed lengthy queues. Although officials stated the issue had been resolved,passengers were advised to stay in touch with their airlines as some flights might still experiance delays.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the airport said: “Our teams are working intensively to fully restore operations following an IT issue that affected our systems early this morning.” The statement added: “While the issue has been resolved, some flights may still face delays. We apologize for the disruption and recommend passengers check their flight status with their airline before heading to the airport.”
The London airport further noted: “We hope all systems will soon be fully restored and will provide another update shortly.”
A Stansted Airport spokesperson told PA Media: “All systems have now been fully restored, and no flights were canceled due to this issue. we are investigating the cause, though nothing has been confirmed yet—but it appears related to internet access for certain systems.”
one passenger who missed a Ryanair flight to Rome told The Guardian: “I arrived two hours early at around 6 AM for my 8:05 AM flight but still didn’t make it on time.” Another traveler, who wished to remain anonymous, told BBC they were stuck in hours-long terminal queues and missed their flight to Greece. They reported arriving at Essex’s Stansted Airport at 4:45 AM only to find lines stretching beyond exit doors.
