According to the English section of “webangah News Agency” citing Mehr news Agency and Anadolu Agency,Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart,Volodymyr Zelenskyy,to discuss bilateral relations and the latest regional and international developments.In a statement from the Turkish presidency,Erdoğan emphasized that both sides’ willingness to resume direct negotiations is crucial,adding that Ankara is prepared to facilitate all stages of dialog and provide necessary support.
Expressing optimism about turkey potentially hosting Russian and Ukrainian delegations for a new round of peace talks, Erdoğan stated: “A complete ceasefire could create the groundwork for political negotiations—this chance must not be missed.”
Simultaneously occurring, a Turkish Foreign Ministry official confirmed that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan separately held phone calls with his Russian and French counterparts tonight to exchange views on diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Reuters cited a Turkish diplomatic source revealing that Fidan’s discussion with Sergey lavrov also focused on pathways to achieving peace between moscow and Kyiv.The Russian Foreign Ministry acknowledged the call, noting that lavrov reviewed putin’s initiative for direct negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul during his conversation with his Turkish counterpart.
These diplomatic moves follow Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent proposal at a press conference suggesting unconditional direct talks with Ukraine resume next Thursday in Istanbul—negotiations stalled since 2022.
