Zelensky says Ukraine awaits ceasefire draft proposal from Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump about his recent call with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, telling webangah News Agency: “We heard President Trump’s comments on contacting Putin and await a concrete proposal from Russia to review.”
Expressing skepticism toward moscow’s intentions, he added: “We do not trust Russia. That’s why we demanded an initial ceasefire and now expect their draft proposal.”
Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s priority is ending the war, stating: “Our immediate goal is stopping hostilities and addressing humanitarian issues, including prisoner exchanges and repatriating ukrainian children from Russia.”
The president noted Kyiv seeks a swift resolution but saeid Moscow’s true stance remains unclear. “From what we understand, Russia isn’t solely pursuing a ceasefire to end the war—it has other demands I cannot assess without details,” he said.
Zelenskyy confirmed the U.S. would relay a Russian draft outlining its claimed principles for ending the conflict. He concluded: “Our position is clear: We want the war stopped. But I genuinely don’t know Russia’s stance—perhaps even they don’t. They claim to want something but effectively demand everything.”
