Apple stock plunges as Trump threatens 25 percent tariffs

Donald Trump threatened on Friday to impose a 25% tariff on⁤ apple⁢ if the company does not begin ⁣manufacturing⁢ iPhones in the‍ United ‌States.

According to webangah News Agency, citing Forbes,⁤ U.S. President Donald trump warned that Apple would face a‌ 25% tariff unless it⁢ shifts iPhone production to American soil.

the threat ‌comes just days after Trump criticized reports ⁤of Apple’s plans to move iPhone⁣ manufacturing from China ‍to India as a way to circumvent tariffs.

In a post on his Truth Social platform,Trump claimed he had‌ long informed⁢ Apple CEO ⁣Tim Cook that iPhones sold in the U.S. should be made domestically—not ⁢in India or elsewhere.

He warned that ⁣failure to comply would⁤ result in at least a 25% tariff. ⁤Following ⁣his remarks, Apple’s stock fell ⁣over 3.3% in pre-market trading on Friday,‌ dropping to $194.7 per share.

Last week⁤ during his Middle East trip, Trump stated at an event in Qatar that he told Cook: “My friend, I’ve treated you very well…‍ But now I⁣ hear you’re building factories⁣ all over India… I don’t want you⁢ building factories there.”

While confirming Apple’s⁣ planned $500 billion investment in the U.S., he added: “India ‌can take care of itself—they’re doing very well.”

Trump‍ also asserted that Cook‌ promised increased production in america, though specifics remain unclear.
