Iraq Responds to Evacuation of U.S. Embassy in Baghdad
A spokesperson for the office of Iraq’s Armed forces Commander described the evacuation of staff from the U.S. Embassy as a “precautionary measure,” according to a report by webangah News Agency.
the spokesperson stated that all diplomatic missions in Iraq receive security support, emphasizing that this decision was unrelated to any tangible security threats on the ground.
“Intelligence and field reports do not indicate any imminent operational threats,” the Iraqi official clarified, adding that security forces continue to maintain high alert levels.
An unnamed Iraqi source told Al Mayadeen network last night that while officials received formal notification about reducing embassy staff numbers on Wednesday, planning for this move had begun three weeks prior. The source stressed that the advisory was issued not due to an immediate threat but to assist diplomats’ families in preparing for potential departures.
The report confirmed core members of the U.S.diplomatic team-including the Chargé d’Affaires-will remain stationed in Baghdad, with embassy operations continuing uninterrupted.
