Al-Somoud Land Convoy Seized in Western Libya
According to webangah News agency, citing the Palestinian Information Center, the joint Coordination Committee for Palestine announced that the Al-Sumoud convoy halted its journey after eastern Libyan forces insisted on preventing its passage through the city of Sirte. The decision was attributed to a lack of necessary security clearances for crossing Libyan territory.
Wael Nawar, spokesperson for the convoy, told Al Jazeera that participants continue their sit-in at Buerat al-Hussun west of Sirte. He vowed they would not return to Tunisia until 15 detained Tunisian, Libyan and Algerian activists-arrested by eastern Libyan forces-are released.
The aid convoy had been traveling toward Egypt’s borders to support Gaza’s blockaded population when intercepted by eastern Libyan security barriers.
