Reuters: Hamas Agrees to Gaza Ceasefire Proposal
According to webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, a Palestinian official familiar with Friday’s negotiations told Reuters that Hamas has submitted its response to teh proposed 60-day Gaza ceasefire initially put forward by the United States.
The source described the response as positive, stating it should help advance an agreement.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald trump announced he had presented a final proposal for a 60-day truce in the ongoing 21-month war between Israel and Hamas, saying he awaited responses from both parties in the coming hours.
A Hamas official who requested anonymity said: “We have delivered our response regarding the ceasefire proposal to mediators Qatar and Egypt.”
The Palestinian official close to negotiations added: “Hamas’ reply is affirmative, and I believe it should contribute to reaching an agreement.”
On Tuesday,Trump stated Israel had accepted terms necessary for finalizing a 60-day ceasefire,during which efforts would be made to end hostilities between the U.S.-backed coalition and Hamas in Palestinian territories.
Though, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has yet to respond publicly to Trump’s remarks. Official statements reveal important remaining gaps between both sides’ positions.
Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Trump in Washington on Monday.
