Ukraine Launches Large-Scale Drone Strikes on Russia
According to webangah news Agency, Russian officials reported that their air defense systems intercepted dozens of Ukrainian drones across multiple regions, including two near St. Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city.
Alexander Drozdenko, governor of the Leningrad region surrounding St.Petersburg, stated via Telegram that two drones were downed in the city’s southern districts. He confirmed no casualties or damage resulted from the attack.
Flights at Pulkovo airport in St.Petersburg were temporarily suspended following the incident.
The governor of Russia’s western Smolensk region reported three drones shot down without casualties or damage, while Voronezh’s governor near the Ukrainian border said several drones had been destroyed in recent hours.
Russian media cited the Defense Ministry claiming a total of 42 drones neutralized within three hours-37 of them in border regions with Ukraine (Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk).
Ukraine has increasingly deployed long-range drone strikes against Russian territory in recent months. A notable operation dubbed “Spider Web” last month damaged multiple Russian bombers at various airbases.
The drone war escalates: Russian forces simultaneously set a new record by launching 539 drones and 11 missiles toward Kyiv on Thursday evening-an attack President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed Ukrainian interceptors successfully countered.
The reciprocal strikes highlight intensifying drone warfare between both sides and expanding conflict zones beyond frontlines.
