Agudat Yisrael Party Exits Israeli Regime Cabinet
The English section of webangah News Agency reported, citing Russia Al-Youm via Mehr News Agency, that in a notable political development threatening Israel’s ruling coalition, the extremist faction Yahadut HaTorah announced on Monday its exit from Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet. The move was a protest against a proposed new draft law mandating military service for Haredi Jews.
Yahadut HaTorah, composed of two parties-Degel HaTorah and Agudat Yisrael-left the government coalition following directives from religious authorities. They opposed the draft law text which they said violated prior agreements.
Agudat Yisrael issued a statement saying that due to submission of a bill inconsistent with senior rabbis’ demands and positions, members of their Council of Senior Rabbis instructed party representatives to resign from their coalition roles.
The Degel HaTorah party had already announced its withdrawal from Netanyahu’s cabinet yesterday.
Reports from within Israel indicate that Benjamin Netanyahu will attempt over the next 48 hours to persuade hardline Orthodox factions-the Haredim-to accept a compromise over the military conscription bill before any resignations take effect and official requests to leave government are submitted.
