Trump Envoy Backs Down from Threatening Tone Against Hezbollah
According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Mayadeen, Thomas Barrack, the US envoy to Syria and Lebanon, saeid today in Beirut that the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon has not been successful.
Regarding Hezbollah’s weapons, he stated: “Disarming Lebanon is an internal matter. If Hezbollah’s disarmament dose not happen, there will be no direct consequences or threats, but it would be disappointing. We cannot give any guarantees as we cannot force Israel to act! Currently, we are not considering sanctions against Lebanese officials.”
This marks a shift from just days ago when Barrack issued a threatening warning: ”The US president’s patience on this issue is limited!”
He added that if the Lebanese government and parliament reach an agreement with Hezbollah regarding the disarmament of heavy resistance weapons-a category that includes arms capable of targeting Israel-that would be a meaningful achievement that should lead to sidelining such weapons.
Barrack had previously hinted at the possibility of internal conflict erupting in Lebanon due to these tensions.
On Syria, he said today that recent developments stem from severe individual and tribal conflicts. He emphasized that Damascus must take responsibility for these issues and stressed the importance of integrating minorities into Syrian governance.
