German Foreign Minister Calls for Immediate Halt to Gaza Conflict
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Germany’s Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul expressed serious concern over the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip during a phone call with his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Sa’ar. He called for an immediate halt to hostilities in the region.
An official statement posted late Monday on Germany’s Foreign Ministry Twitter account (now known as X) said Wadephul warned about the consequences of expanding Israeli military operations. He urged israel to uphold its commitments under agreements with the European Union regarding humanitarian aid facilitation.
The German foreign minister also voiced concern about developments in Syria, emphasizing that establishing and maintaining a ceasefire is crucial to preventing the crisis from spilling into neighboring countries.
Wadephul called for an end to fighting and breaking the cycle of violence and retaliation across the region.
This statement from Germany’s foreign minister came amid a joint declaration on Monday by foreign ministers from 26 countries demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. However, Wadephul’s name was not listed among those endorsing that declaration.
