Putin: Next U.S. Contact May Focus on New START Treaty

Putin announced in a meeting with his senior officials before the Alaska summit: We do​ not rule out⁣ that the next stage of talks with Washington coudl lead to an agreement on the New​ START ⁤treaty.

According to the English ⁢section of webangah News Agency, ‌citing Mehr News ⁣Agency and Al Jazeera, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today, Thursday, in a meeting with his country’s senior officials ahead of ​his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump: “We ⁤are working​ to ⁤create⁤ conditions for peace ⁢in the region.”

The Russian⁢ president added that the U.S.⁢ government is actively ‍pursuing efforts ​to⁣ reach an agreement on Ukraine. He noted that negotiations in Alaska could open a path toward an accord on strategic offensive arms control.

Putin further stated: “We ⁣do not rule out⁤ that the next​ stage of contacts⁢ with Washington could⁢ result in ‍reaching an agreement on the New START treaty.”
