Putin: Next U.S. Contact May Focus on New START Treaty
Putin announced in a meeting with his senior officials before the Alaska summit: We do not rule out that the next stage of talks with Washington coudl lead to an agreement on the New START treaty.
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today, Thursday, in a meeting with his country’s senior officials ahead of his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump: “We are working to create conditions for peace in the region.”
The Russian president added that the U.S. government is actively pursuing efforts to reach an agreement on Ukraine. He noted that negotiations in Alaska could open a path toward an accord on strategic offensive arms control.
Putin further stated: “We do not rule out that the next stage of contacts with Washington could result in reaching an agreement on the New START treaty.”
