U.S. Sanctions Four Senior ICC Officials
The US Secretary of State,Marco Rubio, announced on Wednesday sanctions targeting four judges and deputy prosecutors of the International Criminal Court (ICC),including Nicolas Guillou, who approved arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Gantz, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera.
Rubio stated that these sanctions were imposed on individuals associated with the ICC.
He described the action as a response to what he called a ”politicization” of the ICC and “abuse of its authorities,” labeling these claims as a pretext.
On June 6, Rubio also announced sanctions against four other ICC judges: Solomy Balungi Bossa from Uganda, Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza from Peru, Rein Adelaide Sophie Alapini-Gansou from Benin, and Bety Höller from Slovenia.
This follows an executive order signed by former US President Donald Trump in February 2023 to impose sanctions on the ICC over its issuance of arrest warrants against Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister.
