Powerful Storm Injures 23 in Japan + Video
A strong storm named Paipha hit Shizuoka Prefecture in eastern japan, according to teh English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency from Cairo Al-Akhbarieh.
The severe winds of Storm paipha caused extensive damage, destroying 227 homes and causing trees to fall along with power line disruptions across Shizuoka.
At least 23 people were injured by the storm; three are reported to be in serious condition. The city of Makinohara suffered important damage.
Images released from affected areas show roofs torn off houses and overturned vehicles blocking streets. Strong winds were recorded in four cities within Shizuoka Prefecture,including Yoshida and Makinohara.
A total of 43 buildings were either fully or partially destroyed, while another 184 sustained minor damage.
NHK also reported that around 9 p.m. local time, Storm Paipha intensified into a tropical cyclone as it reached Japan’s eastern coastline.
A state of emergency has been declared in some areas. Rescue teams are currently assessing the damage and coordinating relief efforts.
