Heading to Gaza and Ready for Any Scenario; Global Community Remains Passive
webangah News Agency, International Desk: The international solidarity fleet “Samood,” comprising more than 70 ships from 44 countries, set sail on Sunday, August 30, 2025, aiming to break the blockade of Gaza. The word “Samood” means “resistance.”
The fleet includes various international coalitions such as the “Freedom Flotilla,” “Global Gaza Movement,” “Caravan samood,” and Malaysia’s “al Samood Nusantara.” Prominent figures like Greta Thunberg,Mariana Mortagua,and other human rights activists have joined this mission. It has been announced that dozens more ships from Tunisia and Mediterranean countries will join the fleet on september 4.
The Global Samood Fleet is considered the largest maritime convoy in history.Thousands have gathered with plans to reach Gaza by mid-September. The ships will navigate international waters near Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, and Gaza. The Israeli occupation regime has declared it will detain participants aboard these vessels.
Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan-a senior member of Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami party and former senator who leads the ”Save Gaza” campaign in Pakistan-is also part of this convoy. He spoke in detail with webangah News Agency’s reporter; his extensive remarks follow:
What motivated you to join the international Samood fleet? What are its goals? How many Pakistanis are involved?
The Samood caravan comprises human rights activists and Palestine supporters from over 40 countries worldwide. We represent a five-member delegation from Pakistan participating actively. This fleet pursues three main objectives: first is breaking the siege imposed on oppressed people in Gaza.
The second goal is to halt what can only be described as genocide being carried out by Israel against Gaza’s population-a situation unfortunately met with silence by many human rights organizations and global bodies who remain passive observers. Thirdly, this initiative aims to deliver humanitarian aid directly to besieged residents of Gaza via international waters without violating any laws.
How long will it take for this convoy to reach Gaza? What types of aid does it carry?
This caravan consists of approximately seventy vessels transporting critical humanitarian supplies including foodstuffs, drinking water, medicine, infant formula milk powder plus other essential goods. Notable personalities accompanying us include Mandela Mandela-grandson of Nelson Mandela-alongside famous singers, lawyers, political leaders religious figures journalists social activists plus influential global personalities.
Previous fleets heading toward Gaza were either denied entry or faced attacks including kidnappings by Israeli forces. Do you believe this convoy will succeed in reaching Gaza? Has Israel made any direct threats against your group so far?
This remains the largest flotilla dispatched since Israel’s ongoing aggression against Gaza began recently. Our goal persists-to end this cruel illegal blockade and also stop genocide targeting innocent civilians there.
Nevertheless Israel insists anyone attempting passage inside such fleets en route towards Palestine shall be classified terrorists treated according to counterterrorism measures-and all ships confiscated accordingly.
Past attempts saw some boats turned back while others managed deliveries amidst unfriendly interdictions involving attacks or kidnappings.
The current situation mirrors those challenges but bears emphasizing there comes a time when normal citizens must risk themselves given catastrophic mass killings underway ignored officially worldwide-the silence itself implicates complicity enabling atrocities.
