Russia Successfully Tests Hypersonic Missile in Military Drill
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Mayadeen, a Russian corvette fired a hypersonic Zircon missile during its joint exercise with Belarus called “Zapad 2025,” hitting a naval target with accuracy.
the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the corvette admiral Golovko from the Northern Fleet destroyed a simulated naval target using the hypersonic Zircon missile.
The ministry explained that the missile strike was conducted by the ship’s crew in the Barents Sea and confirmed destruction of the target by direct hit based on real-time objective control data.
The ministry noted that Zapad 2025 includes testing elements for coastal site defense and protection of Northern Fleet bases, coordination of various force units, as well as integrated use of precision weapons and modern advanced weapon systems and military technologies.
The annual Russia-Belarus exercises in Belarus run from September 12 to 16. They aim to assess both countries’ capabilities to ensure military security within their Union State and readiness to repel any possible aggression.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized that these exercises are “planned and not directed against anyone.” He added their purpose is to strengthen military cooperation between two strategic allies, not against any third country.
The Belarusian defense minister also announced that these drills will include maneuvers for planning nuclear weapon use and testing Orshanik systems.
