EU Delays Unveiling 19th Sanctions Package Against Moscow
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS,reports that Politico quoted a diplomat and a European official stating the European Union, which was set to unveil its 19th sanctions package against Russia tomorrow (September 17),has postponed it indefinitely.
According to Politico sources, the 19th sanctions package is not expected to be announced tomorrow, and the European Commission has not set a new date for its official unveiling.
Politico noted that this delay results from the EU shifting its focus from imposing further sanctions on Russia toward pressuring Slovakia and Hungary to reduce their dependence on Moscow’s oil.
Yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated he is willing to impose sanctions on Russia only if Europeans take similar action. He said Washington cannot accept acting fully against Russia while European countries continue buying Russian oil.
Another condition set by Trump involves imposing tariffs of 50 to 100 percent on China. According to him, such measures would help resolve the Ukraine crisis, with tariffs lifted once the war ends.
