Trump Rejects $400 Million Military Aid Package to Taiwan

Reports from U.S. media‌ indicate that the country’s president has refused to approve $400 million in military aid to Taiwan Island.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, The Washington Post reported that in recent⁣ months, U.S. President Donald Trump declined to approve $400 million in military assistance to Taiwan amid trade negotiations and a potential meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The newspaper noted that this decision sharply contradicts U.S. policy toward the self-governing island, which faces increasing threats from Beijing over possible annexation.

A White House official told The Washington Post ‌that no final ⁤decision has been made regarding this aid package.

Although the U.S. avoided formal recognition of Taiwan as the late‌ 1970s, ⁤Washington has remained its largest and most significant supporter and military supplier.

Under⁣ former President Joe Biden’s governance, over $2 billion ‌in military aid⁤ was approved for Taiwan. However, according to⁤ The Post,”Trump does not send ⁢weapons without payment,” following a ⁤similar approach taken with Ukraine.

It is indeed reported that U.S.‍ and Taiwanese defense officials met in August in Alaska to discuss an arms sale worth billions of dollars covering drones, missiles,‍ and coastal surveillance ‌sensors for Taipei’s security ‍operations.

Since Trump’s return to ⁤the White House last ⁣January, anxiety has grown in taiwan about‍ potential weakening of ties with the United states ‍and Washington’s willingness to defend it ⁤if China attacks.
