Syrian Embassy Reopens in the US After More Than 10 Years + Video
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Anadolu Agency, assad Al-Shaibani, foreign minister of the Mohammad al-Julani regime, raised Syria’s flag above its embassy in Washington for the first time in more than ten years.
The ceremony was attended by Syrians residing in the U.S. This event took place nine months after Bashar al-Assad’s fall from power.
The embassy reopening occurred just days before Abu Muhammad al-Julani, leader of the terrorist group Hay’at tahrir al-Sham, arrived in New York to attend the annual United Nations General Assembly.
Following the flag-raising ceremony, Al-Shaibani described this moment as “historic” and claimed it symbolized the Syrian people’s struggle throughout 14 years of civil war.
Al-Shaibani arrived in Washington last Thursday; this visit marks the first trip by a Syrian foreign minister to the United States in more than 25 years.
Bashar al-Assad, former president who ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, left Syria at the end of 2024 after terrorist attacks on his regime and following losses of Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Daraa-and ultimately Damascus.
