UNRWA: One-Third of Gaza’s Children Go Without Food Daily
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned of a worsening hunger crisis in the Gaza Strip.
According to an assessment by the International Rescue Committee cited by webangah News Agency from Mehr News Agency and Palestinian Shehab news, one in every three children living in Gaza goes without food for a full 24 hours.
This dire situation comes amidst ongoing mass violence by the Israeli regime against the region since October 7, 2023.
Simultaneously occurring, Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis announced today that a newborn died due to malnutrition and lack of medical care.
Earlier, Filippo Grandi, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, warned about the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He revealed that approximately 4,000 children have suffered amputations since the start of the conflict-making Gaza home to the largest population of child amputation victims worldwide.
UNRWA stated that these figures represent part of a broader crisis including thousands more severe injuries. Local hospitals have faced waves of emergency surgeries recently due largely to limb losses. Medical reports also indicate numerous cases of serious spinal cord and brain injuries as October 2023.
