Atwan: Trump’s Gaza Ceasefire Plan Aims to Break Israeli Isolation
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency via Rai al-Youm electronic newspaper, senior regional analyst Abdel Bari Atwan addressed U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for international trusteeship over gaza. He noted that Trump’s meeting with eight Arab leaders and officials on the sidelines of the United nations General Assembly in New York served as a call to adopt a 21-point plan. However, Atwan said the plan contained nothing new, reiterating issues long debated over 23 months of negotiations supervised by the U.S. in Cairo and Doha aimed at halting conflict in gaza.
Recycled Points in Trump’s Plan
Atwan identified repeated elements within Trump’s proposal: releasing Israeli prisoners, establishing a permanent ceasefire, gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces, forming a government to govern Gaza excluding Hamas, symbolic military oversight from Arab, Islamic and Palestinian countries, and funding from Arab and Islamic states without any financial contribution from the U.S. or European countries.
The article adds that this American initiative does not stem from compassion for Palestinians or an intent to halt killing and genocide in Gaza. rather,it aims to rescue Israel’s occupying regime from overwhelming international isolation. Trump explicitly emphasized this goal while making no mention of genocide or starvation in Gaza-issues he fundamentally refuses to acknowledge.
Questionable Architects Behind Trump’s Plan
Atwan also questioned how one could trust a plan crafted by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair-whose hands are stained with Iraqi blood as one of the architects behind their destruction-and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and Netanyahu’s protégé who designed the ”Deal of the Century.” The main overseer remains Ron Dermer, Israel’s Minister of Strategic Affairs notorious for his deep hostility toward Palestinians and Arabs alike.
Trump plan: A New Trap to Perpetuate Killing in Gaza
The analyst described Washington’s new initiative as a misleading trap-a renewed cycle following 23 months of talks-designed solely to grant Netanyahu and his army more time and excuses to continue genocidal actions against Gazans while completing their project of displacement.
Atwan concluded by insisting that if Trump were truly serious about his plan,he would immediately halt Israel’s massacres in Gaza as proof of good faith-and invite khalil al-Hayya,head of Hamas’ negotiation team,to participate in these talks. Yet Trump has greenlit Mossad operations against Doha targeting Hamas leaders for assassination-a sign he seeks not reconciliation but their elimination along with all their associates.
