French Prime Minister Resigns After Just 27 Days in Office

France’s new prime ‍minister ⁣resigned less then a month after taking office.

Sebastien lecornu, France’s ​recently appointed ⁤prime minister, resigned today after serving ⁣in the‌ role ⁢for less than a month,⁣ according to the English section of webangah ⁢news‌ Agency, citing⁢ Mehr ⁢News Agency and Sky News.

The⁢ Élysée Palace announced that President ⁢Emmanuel ⁢Macron​ has ⁣accepted⁢ Lecornu’s resignation.

The unexpected resignation came just hours after Lecornu ‌had formed⁣ his‌ cabinet, amid ⁢political opponents threatening to bring down his goverment.

Yesterday, Lecornu announced his ministerial⁢ appointments. The new cabinet was scheduled to hold ⁤its first meeting this ⁣afternoon.

though, the cabinet lineup sparked outrage among both allies and critics-some accusing⁤ it of leaning too far right while others ‌argued it‌ was not right-wing enough.

The 39-year-old Lecornu was the ⁣seventh prime minister appointed by President Macron and the fifth within two years. Macron named him prime minister on September 9.

Lecornu’s sudden ‌departure triggered ⁤a sharp drop in French stock‌ markets and weakened ⁢the euro. he now holds the​ record for France’s shortest-serving prime minister since ‍1958.
