Decisive Blow to Baath Party Remnants in Complex Operation in Iraq
Iraq’s National Security Agency declared today, Sunday, that its forces dismantled underground cells of the dissolved Baath Party across 14 provinces and arrested 135 suspects in accordance with Iraq’s law prohibiting Baath Party activities.
The agency emphasized in a statement: “In line with our national responsibility and through a proactive operation to maintain Iraq’s security and stability, our forces succeeded in delivering a severe blow to the remnants promoting the banned Baath Party.” This unique and precise operation was conducted over three months across 14 Iraqi provinces.
According to the statement, these efforts resulted in breaking up underground networks and detaining 135 suspects by judicial order. Investigations also revealed that these cells had connections with foreign parties and sought to rebuild the defunct Baath Party structure while recruiting youth through misleading slogans on social media platforms.
