The Gulf Emirates: The US Does Not Oppose Tel Aviv’s Large-Scale Attack on Lebanon
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, states that the Emirati newspaper al-Khaleej wrote that statements by Tom Vraack, the US envoy to Lebanon, come amid escalating US and Zionist regime pressure on lebanon and increasing threats of a potential wide-ranging israeli assault on the country.
According to the paper, Vraack’s warning that if the Lebanese government does not disarm Hezbollah it could face a major Israeli attack signals that the United States sees no obstacle to extensive military action against Lebanon by Israel.
the report adds that washington and Tel Aviv believe their plan for compliance requires a new war. This is as Lebanese authorities are unwilling to disarm hezbollah due to ongoing Israeli violations related to ceasefire agreements and Israel’s refusal to withdraw from five sites inside lebanese territory or halt antagonistic actions against Lebanon.
The newspaper noted Israel’s refusal to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and its disregard for ceasefire obligations. Meanwhile, American and French parties do not appear committed to pressuring Israel on these issues.
Al-Khaleej also recalled that Joseph Aoun, President of Lebanon, has expressed agreement with indirect negotiations with Israel over land borders. Though, Lebanon faces challenges stemming from Israel’s positions supported by Washington.Believing it can achieve victory in any future conflict with Lebanon, Israel seeks to impose its terms during negotiations. In pursuit of this strategy, these actors continue exerting political, economic-and possibly military-pressure on Lebanon while withholding support for rebuilding efforts. The goal appears aimed at forcing Lebanon toward normalization of relations with Israel based on former US President Trump’s latest plan.
