EU Approves 19th Sanctions Package Against Russia
The EU’s rotating presidency, held by Denmark, announced that member states have formally adopted the nineteenth sanctions package against Russia in response to its war against Ukraine. This latest round includes a ban on imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia.
This sanctions package also introduces a new mechanism to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats within the European Union.
Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, confirmed this update on X (formerly twitter), stating that the package targets Russian banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, and entities based in countries such as India and China.
She added that the EU is limiting Russian diplomatic activities “to counter this country’s efforts to destabilize.” According to Kallas, “it is becoming increasingly challenging for Putin to finance this war day by day.”
