Former CIA Officer Exposes U.S. Role in Arming Pakistan with Nuclear Weapons

A former CIA officer revealed that the United States deliberately overlooked Pakistan’s nuclear weapons growth during the Cold War to counter the Soviet Union.
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Richard Barlow disclosed in an interview with Asia International News Agency (ANI) that throughout the 1980s, U.S. administrations intentionally ignored Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program. This was done to maintain a strategic alliance with Pakistan during the Soviet-Afghan War.
The former CIA nonproliferation officer also highlighted America’s transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan. He emphasized that these F-16 aircraft were specifically designed to carry nuclear weapons.
Speculation about America’s role in its proxy war against the Soviet Union during the Cold War has long circulated, adding context to Barlow’s revelations.
