Senate Passes Bill to End US Government Shutdown; Measure Moves to House

Eight Democrats joined nearly all Republicans-except one-in backing the bill.
The vote took place Monday night local time, marking the 41st day of the government shutdown. This final approval followed an initial vote on sunday night local time.
The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for final authorization; this chamber has not voted since September 19 and is expected to resume work on Wednesday.
On Sunday night,a group of moderate Democrats frustrated by ongoing political deadlock joined republicans to advance a temporary House-approved measure known as the “Continuing Appropriations Resolution” in the Senate. Democrats had previously blocked this legislation 14 times.
